r0mance.ai is operated by ZeFactory, a company based in Paris, France.
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the r0mance.ai mobile application ("the App").
1. Age Requirement
The App is intended for users aged 18 and older. By using the App, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address for authentication purposes. This is the only personal information stored on our servers by default.
2.2 In-App Content (Stored Locally)
The following data is stored on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you use the Backup feature (see Section 2.6):
- Conversations with AI characters
- Custom characters and scenarios you create
- AI-generated images
- User profile information (name, physical description)
- Game progress and history
- Stories and story progress
- Voice call recordings and transcripts
- AI-extracted character memories (preferences, shared moments, emotions)
- Character experience and progression data
Important: Since this data is stored on your device by default, deleting the app or clearing its data will permanently erase all of the above -- unless you have created a backup (see Section 2.6).
2.3 Photos and Videos
When you use interactive games that involve photos or videos (e.g., Strip Tease, Confessional, Actor Studio, Mirror Game, Truth or Dare):
- Your photos and videos are transmitted in real-time to our AI provider for processing
- They are not stored on our servers or on our AI provider's servers
- No logging or retention of visual content is enabled
- Photos and videos are processed and immediately discarded
2.4 Audio Recordings
When you use voice features (e.g., voice messages in conversations, voice calls, Taboo Flirt game):
- Audio is transmitted in real-time to our AI provider for processing
- Audio is not stored on our servers
- Audio recordings are processed and immediately discarded
- Transcripts of voice calls are stored locally on your device for playback purposes
2.5 Crash Reports and Performance Data
If you opt in (configurable in Settings), we collect anonymous crash reports through Firebase Crashlytics. This data does not contain personal information or conversation content.
2.6 Backup (Optional, User-Initiated)
You may choose to back up your local database to our servers from Settings:
- Backups are stored in Azure Blob Storage (hosted in Europe)
- Each account has one backup slot (overwritten on each save)
- Backup includes: custom characters, scenarios, character memories, experience data
- Backup does not include: conversations, stories, voice calls
- Photos are not uploaded in the backup, but photos already present on your device are preserved after a restore
- Backups are encrypted at rest on Azure Blob Storage
- You can delete your backup at any time from Settings
- Maximum backup size: 25 MB
2.7 Content Reports (User-Initiated)
When you report a conversation, story, or voice call for inappropriate content:
- The session data (messages, story scenes, or voice call transcript) is sent to our servers for review by our moderation team
- Reports are stored on Azure Blob Storage for investigation purposes
- Reports do not include your email or personal identity
- Reports are deleted after investigation is complete
2.8 Content Moderation
When you create custom characters or scenarios, the text you provide is sent to our AI provider to verify compliance with our content guidelines. This is an automated check -- no human reviews your content unless flagged.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Email: Account authentication and management only
- AI Processing: Text, photos, videos, and audio are transmitted to our AI providers solely to generate responses, judge game performance, create images, and synthesize speech. No content is retained after processing.
- Content Moderation: Custom character and scenario text is checked against content guidelines via our AI provider
- Backup: To allow you to restore your data on a new device or after reinstallation (user-initiated only)
- Content Reports: To review and act on AI-generated content that may be inappropriate, violent, or offensive
- Crash Reports: To improve app stability and fix bugs (opt-in only)
4. Third-Party Services
4.1 AI Providers
We use third-party AI providers (including OpenRouter and Google Gemini) to process AI requests. Your text and audio are transmitted for real-time processing. These providers do not retain or log your content after processing. For more information:
4.2 Firebase (Google)
We use Firebase for crash reporting (opt-in). See Google's Privacy Policy.
4.3 Azure (Microsoft)
We use Azure Blob Storage for optional backups and content reports. Data is stored in European data centers. See Microsoft Privacy Statement.
4.4 Keycloak (Authentication)
We use Keycloak for user authentication. Only your email address is stored.
4.5 Observability
We use observability tools (OpenTelemetry) to monitor API performance and reliability. Traces include request timing, error rates, and operation metadata. No conversation content, images, or personal data is included in traces.
5. Data Storage and Security
- Account data (email) is stored on secure servers in Europe
- Backups (if created) are stored in Azure Blob Storage in Europe
- All in-app content is stored locally on your device by default
- All communications with our servers use HTTPS encryption
- Backups are encrypted at rest
- We do not sell, share, or rent your personal information to third parties
6. Your Rights (GDPR)
As a user in the European Union, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Delete your account, server-side backup, and associated data
- Export your data (the Backup feature in Settings serves as a data export mechanism)
- Object to data processing
- Withdraw consent for crash reporting at any time in Settings

7. Data Deletion
- Local data: You can delete all conversations, images, stories, and game data at any time from the Settings screen
- Backup data: You can delete your server backup at any time from Settings > Backup & Restore
- Account deletion: Contact us at privacy@zefactory.io to request complete account deletion (including any server-side backups and reports)
- Crash reports opt-out: Toggle off in Settings > Diagnostics at any time
8. AI-Extracted Memories
The App uses AI to extract contextual memories from your conversations (e.g., preferences, shared moments). These memories:
- Are stored locally on your device only (unless backed up)
- Help personalize future interactions with AI characters
- Can accumulate over time (maximum 35 per character, oldest are replaced)
- Emotion-based memories decay after 7 days, shared moments after 14 days
- Are included in backups if you choose to back up your data
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from minors. If we discover that a minor has created an account, we will delete it immediately.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
